American Negro Slavery was first published in 1918, it was initially seen as an accurate and well-researched study of slavery in the American South. More recently, under review, the book has been seen as being flawed in a number of areas, that Phillips's misunderstandings and misinterpretations have somewhat diminished his conclusion. Nonetheless, this work is a worthy and detailed study of black historic importance that should not be ignored.（引用元）
